Why Do I Keep Losing Money Trading?

Upload your trade history and see which of the usual suspects shows up in your own numbers.

Find What's Costing Me

If you keep losing money trading, the first instinct is to look for a better strategy. Sometimes that is the answer. Often it is not, because the same strategy can lose for very different reasons, and each reason needs a different fix. Before changing what you trade, it helps to know how you lose.

A losing account usually comes from a short list of causes. Losses that are larger than wins, so even a decent win rate cannot pay for them. A few big losses that erase many small gains. Position size that grows right after a loss. Trades taken faster once you are down. One instrument that costs far more than the others. Each of these leaves a different fingerprint in your trade history.

The trouble is that none of this is visible from the inside. Memory keeps the dramatic trades and smooths over the pattern, and your total profit and loss tells you that you are losing, not why. The only reliable way to see why is to look at every trade at once and measure it.

That is what the analyzer below does. It reads your closed trades, calculates your results, and checks them against the patterns that most often sit behind a losing account. It only reports a pattern when your numbers clear a clear threshold, so an empty result is a real answer too. Nothing about it is advice.

What the analysis checks

Win size versus loss size

Compares your average win with your average loss and works out the win rate you would need to break even. Why losses end up bigger than wins is the usual culprit.

Where the losses come from

Shows whether a handful of trades, or a single instrument, account for most of your losses.

What happens after a loss

Looks at whether your position size grows, or your re-entry speeds up, after losing trades.

Results after losing streaks

Checks whether your trades get worse after several losses in a row.

Frequently asked questions

Is losing money in trading normal?

Many people who trade actively lose money, especially at the start, so you are not unusual. What matters is whether you can tell why. Losses with an identifiable cause can be changed, while losses you cannot explain tend to repeat.

Can this analyzer tell me which strategy to use?

No. It describes how you trade and how your results are built, using your own history. It does not predict markets, suggest trades or recommend a strategy, and nothing it says is financial advice.

How many trades do I need?

With fewer than 20 trades only basic numbers are shown, because behavioral patterns need more history to mean anything. Patterns appear from 20 trades, are more meaningful from around 50, and stronger still beyond 200.

Which file should I upload?

A CSV where each row is one finished trade with its result: your exchange's closed positions or profit-and-loss history. It needs a close time and a result, or entry price, exit price, quantity and side. A list of individual order fills is not enough, because fills cannot be paired into trades without guessing.

Is my trade history stored?

The file is read in memory and is not saved. Only the result of the analysis is kept: for 7 days if you do not sign in, or until you delete it if you save it to your account. The analyzer never asks for exchange passwords or API keys.
